Search for art commissions for next year’s event
Local artists and performers are being offered the chance to create exciting new pieces of work to be unveiled as part of next year’s Scarborough arts festival Coastival.
Coastival organiser Create has got funding for four new art commissions on the theme ‘Exploring the Yorkshire Coast’.
Now local artists and arts companies are being invited to put forward ‘exciting and innovative’ bids for the £5,000 commissions.
Director Wendy Holroyd said Create had secured Arts Council funding for four new commissions for artists, working in any art form, to create new work in Scarborough.
“We’re particularly keen to see work with strong artistic content and visual presence and impact, which can engage with diverse audiences,” she said.
“We’re looking for professional, practising artists or companies with an aptitude for working in community settings and a proactive, collaborative approach that will engage a wide range of participants.
“In particular, we want these new commissions to push artistic boundaries and respond to the Scarborough landscape.”
The deadline for submissions is 31st May 2015.
Individual artists or companies are eligible to apply and each of the four chosen will receive a fee of £5,000 for the delivery of the commission and presentation of the work at Coastival in February next year.
The fee covers all artistic, production and travel costs. Create will support companies to apply for further funding from other sources if required. Technical, administrative and marketing support will be provided.

Coastival holds its mini, one or two-day festival on alternate years to its main, three-day event. Next year will see a return to the three-day format.
